With guest speaker Guy Bower, Sommelier, wine educator

It’s a new year (hurray) and hopefully a better one than last. We know things aren’t fixed but let’s find a way to enjoy wine, food and a little education now.

Sommelier, wine educator and wino Guy Bower will host a tasting of five wines from the Campania Region of Italy. Exciting and delicious Italian tapas plates will be provided by Executive Chef and Napoli Italian Eatery Owner Jeremy Wade in his beautiful new restaurant. Along with an amazing menu of Italian food and wines, Jeremy offers a monthly “Passport to Italy 2021” program that features wines and food paired to different regions in Italy and January’s is Campania.

Campania is region which forms the "shin" of Italy's boot, and whose largest city is Naples. Its name comes from Campania felix, a Latin phrase roughly meaning “happy land”. The region has strong historical links to wine and vine, dating back to the 12th Century BC, and is one of Italy's very oldest wine regions. The considerable influence of ancient empires, including the Greeks, Romans and Byzantines, means some of this area's varieties have historical legends attached. The area is also famous for producing Falerno (Falernum), one of the most ancient wines in Italy.

Despite being ensconced in tradition, today's wine styles can range from fruit forward and youthful to robust and well-structured. The whites are known for their aromatic characters, often redolent of the local flora. The reds (mainly from Aglianico) have big personalities which require a little aging.

For the tasting, we will be featuring two of the wines on the Passport — the Villa Matilde Greco di Tufo and the Villa Matilde Aglianico Campania — as well as a Prosecco and two other regional wines.

Chef Jeremy Wade and his culinary team prepare food and drinks in collaboration with farmers, ranchers, millers and local artisans that will represent classically influenced yet modern Italian food offering outstanding rustic fare with innovative flavor combinations and artful presentations inspired by Italian Cuisine and specifically the food of Napoli (Naples).
