The American Institute of Wine & Food Wichita Chapter, INC., Presents

Wines of Round Pond Estate Tasting

Join us at  3 p.m. on the Patio at YaYa’s Eurobistro on Sunday, October 25 for a tasting of four outstanding wines from Round Pond led by Jack Volz, Midwestern Sales Manager, Round Pond Estate.

This will be a classroom-style tasting of four stellar wines led by Jack accompanied by an individual plate of appetizers paired to complement the wines. Seating will be social distancing outside, with seating inside in case of inclement weather.

About Jack: After 25 years in the medical field, Jack made the jump to wine sales as Director of Sales for a Spanish wine importer based in Phoenix. “I can honestly say that selling wine is much more enjoyable,” he said. After Phoenix, he moved to St. Paul in 2018 to take over the newly created sales position for Appellation Wine Company and from there became the Midwestern Sales Manager for Round Pond Estate. Jack loves traveling with his wife, Sara, wine and running up and down a basketball court with “zebra stripes on and whistle in his mouth.”

In addition to talking about the wines, Jack will talk a little about the winery and its mission: “At Round Pond we believe that the best wines are born in the vineyard. Because we begin with some of the finest wine grapes in the world, as winemakers our goal is not to construct a personality for Round Pond wines, our aim is to allow each Round Pond wine to find its own expressive voice” and how they truly live up to it with every wine they make!

The wines are:

2019 Round Pond Sauvignon Blanc

This zippy Sauvignon Blanc practically jumps out of the glass with its aromatics of white lilies, spring rain, lychee fruit and grapefruit pith, which continue to develop as the wine opens up with air. There is a stunning richness balanced with mouthwatering acidity from start to finish on the palate, making this a wine that truly over delivers on every expectation. 93 Pts. Tasting Panel Magazine

2018 Round Pond Kith N Kin Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

Beautifully complex and soft aromatics of violets, cola, ripe fig and plum linger on the nose. The generous entry opens with bright, ripe blackberry and boysenberry, softening through the mid-palate with black cherry, cocoa, and allspice. Notes of licorice and tarragon on the finish lead to fine-grained tannins that effortlessly round this young, yet so approachable Cabernet. 90 Pts. Wine Spectator

Round Pond Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

Our flagship Estate Cabernet Sauvignon bursts from the glass with alluring aromas of ripe blackberry, bright cherry and minerality reflective of our infamous “Rutherford Dust.” Creamy, rich, and generous, this wine shows essences of plum and cocoa which marry well with hints of green peppercorn, licorice and tarragon. Elegant and supple, this wine illustrates refined tannins and a pleasing granite-like finish reflecting the diverse flavors found on our Rutherford estate vineyards. This Cabernet Sauvignon is ready to be enjoyed now and will age gracefully over time. 93 Pts. The Tasting Panel

Rutherford Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon

Sourced entirely from the gravely sections of our estate, the 2016 Reserve Cabernet showcases what stunning flavors can come from our Rutherford vineyards. The aromatics burst from the glass with tremendous black current and cassis notes, as well as highlights of licorice, forest floor and black tea. Creamy, rich, and generous, this wine shows essences of plum, clove and cigar box which marry well with hints of dried herbs, licorice and tarragon. The compelling finish unfolds with breadth and a lovely tension between the wine’s mouthwatering acidity and pleasing tannins. 97 Pts. Tasting Panel, 93 Pts Vinous
