AIWF Virtual Wine Tasting & Cooking Demo

The American Institute of Wine & Food Wichita Chapter, INC., Presents

AIWF Virtual Wine Tasting & Cooking Demo

 Fabulous Fall Fun

Join us for a Virtual Wine Tasting of two outstanding and highly rated wines hosted by Sommelier and AIWF Board Member Nelson Escalante AND a Virtual Cooking Demo presented by Chefs Alexis and John Michael from Butler Community College’s Culinary and Hospitality Program at 6 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 22 on Zoom!

Nelson, a Level 2 Certified Sommelier, is the Wine & Spirits Representative for LDF Sales and Distributing of Wichita and has been in the Food and Beverage industry for more than 22 years and loves to share his wine and food passion with AIWF and Wichita. He has chosen these wines to pair with fall-centric food classic recipes created by the Chefs Michael.

Who knew succotash could be so delicious and easy to prepare. And Beef Wellington? Alexis and John show you how to avoid the pitfalls of preparing this retro main dish and make it more outstanding than ever! You can watch the demos and work along with them or prepare them ahead of time and ask questions when the demos are over. And the wines, tasted with the food or during the process, will be lovely!

Alexis Michael started her culinary career at the age of seventeen in Wichita’s own Olive Tree.  She’s worked fine dining, hotels and the wine industry in New York, Wisconsin, Virginia and California.  She holds a Bachelor’s in Human Ecology from K-State and an Associate’s Degree in Culinary Arts from the Culinary Institute of America.  She has spent the last six years teaching for Butler Community College’s Hospitality and Culinary Art’s Program.

Chef John Michael has more than 20 years of experience in the restaurant industry in London, North Carolina, New York, Virginia, Napa and Kansas. He has both an Associate and Bachelor's degree from the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY, one of the foremost Culinary schools in the world. Since coming to Wichita, Michael has been a tireless teacher and advocate of food and wine. John started Butler’s Culinary Arts program in 2012.  He is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Food Business with the Culinary Institute of America.

The Wines

2017 Foxglove Chardonnay, Central Coast, California

Foxglove Chardonnay always represents great value. With this wine, you have the richness of fruit from California's Central Coast giving you tropical notes. However, the wine is bottled without going through malolactic fermentation and has no oak on it so it maintains a very clean profile. Great on its own or with food. 90pts Vinous

AIWF Event Price — $11.99

2015 Faustino Rivero Ulecia Rioja Reserva DOCA, Spain

Pleasant nose with red fruit, cherry, raspberry and blackberry. Hints of vanilla, graphite, tobacco and leather. Full bodied, ample and acid, with round tannins and moderate astringency. Great with beef and lamb. 93pts James Suckling
